Mark Wahba sent me this and I thought it was interesting – nothing late breaking, but a very well done video hitting home the importance of exercise in our daily lives.
We all know that exercise is important, but did you know why or how it can affect your longevity and quality of life. This video discusses the health benefits of exercise with regard to varying ailments and diseases that are common place within North America. At the top of the take home points in this video for me was the fact that low fitness was the strongest predictor of premature death in North America. It is too bad to see things like this as fitness is a simple task and an enjoyable task as well (ask anyone in our club). Another take home point is that these diseases are preventable to a certain degree with living an active and positive lifestyle. We need to understand the importance in what we do and what we offer our community as it is truly life altering.
Two points that are not discussed in this article are the importance of maintaining strength and muscle mass as we age – these are two very strong predictors of longevity. If these are lost as we age our ability to self sustain is lost. We must understand that all the things we do at Synergy Strength is not simply for the love of the sport of CrossFit, but it to is for the love of life and health as well. The improvements you see in your physical performance and aesthetics (read strength, conditioning, muscle mass gain, and fat loss) at Synergy are worth much more than you could ever imagine in the long haul.
