This has been mentioned before, but another research article from McMaster University shows the positive benefits of high intensity interval training on the heart and function of blood vessels. This study again shows the benefits of intense interval training on the circulatory system are the same as traditional long duration moderate intensity exercise. Maureen MacDonald an associate professor in the department of Kinesiology states; “As we age, the arteries become stiffer and tend to lose their ability to dilate, and these effects contribute to high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease”. One of the benefits that long duration low intensity exercise activists push is the ability of exercise to decrease the age related stiffness of arteries and thus improve the circulatory system. The researchers from McMaster are now showing that the same benefits are applied to interval training, but with much less time commitment (and boredom). Synergy Strength has made this argument for years and research is available to back it. Long live exciting, hard working, results oriented interval training.
