Coaches Nutrition Tip #38 – Coffee lowers cancer risk

An interesting blog POST by Coach Charles Poliquin regarding the health benefits of coffee.  To many times I discuss beverage intakes with members and it is thought that coffee is a bad thing or that coffee has not health benefits, but literature will say otherwise.  This is interesting literature that supports massive coffee consumption – of course as Coach Poliquin mentions this study is only a correlative piece of information and does not take into account many other factors, but it still shows that those who consume the highest amount of coffee had the lowest disease risks.

NOTE – coffee is a health food, but only if it is used as a beverage you enjoy and is not used solely to keep your face off of your key board at work.  If coffee is used only as a stimulant than you have some lifestyle issues that need some work, typically sleeping patterns may need to be adjusted.  The basic rules of coffee are;

1. Drink it black or with heavy cream – no sugar.

2. Use only before 2-4pm as it will cause potential sleeping issues in may people if used later.

3. Avoid de-caffeinated coffee as it is processed poorly and literature shows no health benefits.

4. Drink organic if possible as coffee beans are a highly sprayed crop
