What’s one interesting thing about you that other members may not know?
My first name is a little different and comes from a novel that my mother was reading while pregnant with me. It suits me better than the three names they had picked out for me: Gerald, Robert or William.
What is your most memorable moment at Synergy Strength?
Realizing that years of aerobic exercise was never going to get me to where I wanted to be in my health goals and that strength/weight and interval training was the answer. My mantra is “Fit by 60” and I feel that it is a very achievable goal here.
When you talk about Synergy Strength with friends, what do you brag about?
I brag about the comfort level I feel at Synergy and the support of other members and instructors. I appreciate the effort taken to change the exercises and pace to accommodate my startup with the program. I never would have believed that someone would give me a high five and tell me ‘great work’ when running to finish last place and looking like something the dog dragged in (and yes, I acknowledge the measure is not against anyone else, but a measure of how far I’ve come).
What does #synergystrong mean to you?
I’m 57 years old and #synergystrong means getting to 60, 70 and 80 with the body strength and agility that will allow me to perform all of the things I enjoy doing now: daily walking, gardening/yard work, painting a room in the house and renovations, having fun with family and friends.
What is your favorite aspect of Synergy Strength?
I like the variety in programming that Synergy creates every day so there is never any boredom. My body wakes up every time I walk through the doors and the workout is only as good and effective as the push I put into it.
Best Lifts:
My first time with weight lifting was with light dumb bells or a 15-pound bar with the ‘training wheels’ (the light weights that look like 10 pounds just to lift the bar off the mat). My last recorded weights on each of the following are:
Deadlifts – 105 pounds
Press – 80 pounds
Bench press – 90 pounds
