MOBILITY: 16-22, 2013.

Highly attended Mobility classes last week – it was great to see, we can all use it and we all need it.

A benefit of mobility training:

Joint health: Good mobility is essential to good joint health. When muscles and other tissues that support a joint are tight, the joint is subject to abnormal stresses that can cause joint deterioration. For example, tight quadriceps can cause excessive patellofemoral (ligament that crosses the knee cap) compression, which can lead to knee pain. Poor joint mobility can also cause abnormalities for intra-joint articulation and lubrication, leading to deterioration of the cartilage lining.

In the mobility class we use techniques such as banded distractions; in order to create change within the joint and joint capsules. The banded distractions allow space to be created within the joint capsule, which can reset the joint into a good position and allow for proper stretching around the joint or it can encourage motion through the joint capsule so that you can restore intra-joint articulation (how the joint moves inside the joint capsule).
