The Splits (For all levels):
Would you like to (a) be able to do the splits or (b) improve your splits?
Whether you already can do the splits or are still working on getting there, this class is for you. In the splits mobility class, participants will systematically use the methods of stretching, foam rolling, trigger point release and movement quality improvement techniques specifically designed to improve your splits. This targeted mobility class will focus on stretching either front-to-back or middle splits. Improving split mobility will assist in (i) hip extension: a movement required to be explosive in olympic weightlifting and kipping movements (ii) hip hinging: an essential movement pattern that will improve things like your setup for a deadlift. Participants will also learn how to warm up properly for splits and proper techniques for improving flexibility. No previous experience required. All levels welcome to register!
Pistol Position (For all levels) :
Do you fall over or feel off-balance doing pistols? Do you wish to improve the speed and quality of your pistols?
In addition to mobility and balance issues, an overlooked component in the pistol is the capacity to resist internal rotation at the knee. Proper positioning will greatly improve your pistol capacity. This class will focus on: (i) safely increasing participants’ ankle and hip flexibility; (ii) drills to help improve your positioning in the pistol; (iii) exercises to increase pistol position strength and (iv) technical guidance on how to complete pistols using proper alignment. All levels welcome; Level III and Train-To-Win members strongly encouraged to attend.
Overhead Mobility (For all levels):
Are your shoulders tight, stiff or sore?
Shoulder mobility is essential for training effectively to pull and push in multiple planes through a full range of motion. This class is designed for (a) athletes with restricted range of motion in overhead movements; (b) athletes who are stiff and sore after overhead positions; (c) athletes who train in the competition streams; and (d) athletes who are full-time desk or computer workers. In addition to Physical Therapy, this class can assist in addressing range of motion issues and the prevention of future injuries. The focus of the overhead mobility class will be on regaining and improving mobility of the thoracic spine, scapulae, and shoulders. Athletes who wish to improve overhead movements (Olympic lifting, handstand training, gymnastic movements) would benefit from this course. All levels welcome to register; Masters-competitive, competitive Level III and Train-To-Win members are strongly encouraged to attend.
