Jennifer (AKA Hussey) came to SYNERGY to lose weight. Not only did she do that, but she gained confidence, and a new lifestyle. Watch Hussey tell her story of how SYNERGY was the first gym she walked into and never felt judged, and how it helped her get over a weightloss plateau and gained a new perspective on what is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story Hussey! Oh and happy birthday today (Mar 6)!
My weight loss journey started when my doctor told me at the age of 25 that I had high cholesterol!!! I have always struggled with my weight but at this point in my life I was at my heaviest, weighing in at 180+ pounds. I made some eating habit adjustments, going by what the doctor gave me (Canada’s food guide), and got a gym membership. Never in my life had I ever had a gym membership; it actually scared me to death thinking about going to the gym. I felt judged and out of place so I got a membership where they had a “women’s only” section. I struggled on my own, I was extremely out of shape and had no idea what to do, so like most girls I know, I became a cardio junky. Through the summer my friend and I did a crossfit boot camp we purchased on groupon! Jason was the coach, he kicked my ass twice a week for a month, and I loved every moment of it!! My friend was a member at synergy and tried to get me to sign up, I gave the excuse “I’m not in good enough shape for crossfit”. Which now I know is the lamest excuse ever! I continued at the gym and was able to lose 30lbs on my own, however couldn’t seem to lose anymore. Feeling a bit defeated my gym visits got fewer and fewer and my weight was up and down and up and down. Then the summer of 2012 I signed up for boot camps through another affiliate, where I went twice a week for two months. I realized how much I loved working out in the group setting and having the direction of a trainer. So…. I called Synergy and signed up for my introductory class. When I first walked into Synergy I nearly walked right back out, everyone was doing kipping pull-ups and throwing weights, super intimidating!! I am so happy I didn’t walk out that day, I have been at Synergy since Oct 2012 and I can’t imagine ever going back to a “normal” gym. The trainers and the other members are so encouraging and helpful. I have to say this is the first gym that I haven’t felt judged. Everyone cheers you on no matter your time or what weight you’re lifting. Synergy was a huge part in me losing the last 25lbs I just couldn’t lose and keeping it off. Instead of gaining weight I’m now gaining muscle, and confidence. I’m doing things at the gym I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish. In my head I always thought that skinny was what I wanted to be, and aimed for. I have learned that beautiful is: my big ass thighs from squats, my 195lb PR deadlift…and eventually one day, my unassisted pull-up even if it may only be one 😉
